Good Afternoon!

Another weekend is upon us and I hope all of you are going into it with a sense of accomplishment for the week gone by. To my new readers, welcome to Daily Self! I’m happy you found us 😊

In today’s edition…

  1. Afternoon Microdose: This Surprising Thing Happened After Writing About Self-Care for 30 Days

  2. Myth of the Day Recommended Reading: Rather than a myth of the day, I’d like to suggest some readings if you’re a new subscriber (or just behind on the dailies)

  3. Action Item: What’s your dream?

(1) Afternoon Microdose

This Surprising Thing Happened After Writing About Self-Care for 30 Days

Today’s edition marks the 30th for Daily Self! It’s crazy to look back at the archive and see the breadth of topics we have covered. From resilience and re-discovery to being ghosted and having imposter syndrome… we’ve covered a lot.

And while looking back, I realized something significant:

When I surrendered to the dream that I’ve always known I was supposed live, I found myself in a flow state that gave back more energy than it took.

Even though I’ve been working more than ever before, it finally feels like I’m moving with the current, rather than against it. Between the 1st edition and the 30th edition of writing Daily Self, I have:

  • Started Hip Hop classes

  • Written a book

  • Attended new kinds of events by myself that I’ve always been intimidated to do before

  • Practiced my voiceover and got more comfortable with hearing myself in an audio recording

  • Gone on three dates

People ask me all the time, “How do you have the energy to do all that?” The truth is, finding the energy isn’t the problem… it’s that I don’t have enough time to do more!

Pursuing the dream

Maybe you’re not getting old or “winding down”—maybe you just need to accept that there is a dream inside of you pleading to be acknowledged, a dream that once you unabashedly begin to pursue will unfold with divine grace and unlock the meaning and purpose of your life.

Or maybe you’ll fail.

But, in your failure, the risk that you took when you laid your heart bare will make every risk you take thereafter so much less scary.

You’ll do this again, and again, and again—for 30 days or 3000.

Until one day, you don’t fail, and you find that once the dream came alive, so did you.

I don’t know if you have seen or heard of the book Atomic Habit, but I was reading it last year when I was doing Hard75. It’s amazing the habits that are a struggle to start really do build momentum quickly in a positive way without realizing what we are achieving at the time. I am excited to share your journey and inspired to reset the clock on some of my own goals.
